No Rent, No Worries: This Couple’s Tiny Home on Wheels is Their Ticket to Happiness

by Rose White

Chelsea Grech and James Dickson are not your average 23-year-olds. They have given up the comforts and security of a conventional life for a nomadic one, roaming the vast and diverse landscapes of Australia in their trusty Toyota Landcruiser Troop carrier, or “troopy” for short.

The couple met through their love of nature and adventure. Chelsea was an outdoor education instructor at school camps and James was a diesel mechanic in the mining industry. But they felt something was missing in their lives. They wanted more freedom, more excitement, more experiences.

That’s when James stumbled upon a “troopy” for sale online. It was love at first sight. He bought it on the spot and convinced Chelsea to join him on a road trip that would change their lives forever.

Since then, they have travelled over 50,000km around Australia, exploring its stunning coastlines, rugged mountains, lush forests, and arid deserts. They surf, hike, camp, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life on the road. They document their journey on their Instagram page, @sandtosnow, where they share their stories and tips with their followers.

They fund their lifestyle by working online and saving as much as they can. Their biggest expense is fuel, but they save on accommodation by free camping wherever they can. They don’t need much to be happy. They have each other, their “troopy”, and a million-dollar view without the million-dollar price tags.
