Metartworld: A Whimsical Family Outing in Port Melbourne

by Rose White

On the lookout for something unique, fun and a tad quirky to do with the kids this weekend? You might just want to check out Metartworld in Port Melbourne.

Before you dread the thought of dragging bored kids around a stuffy exhibition, trust me, it’s not your average art gallery! This place turns conventional art viewing on its head and will keep your kids entertained for hours.

Metartworld – Art Space Melbourne

Imagine stepping into a massive space filled to the brim with incredible sculptures—all made from scrap metal and recycled materials. Yes, every single piece, from towering robots to life-sized movie characters, is crafted from what many would consider junk.

Creating something new and amazing out of discarded materials is what Metartworld does best. It’s all about showing that old stuff can be turned into something pretty breathtaking with a bit of creativity.

Fun with the Family

What makes Metartworld a hit with families? First off, it’s huge! Covering an area of 400 square meters, there’s no shortage of awe-inspiring metal art to explore.

This is not your typical ‘look but don’t touch’ gallery. Kids (and let’s be honest, us adults too) can actually touch, climb on, and interact with these artworks—perfect for those who can’t resist touching everything in sight.

Capture your little ones’ amazement as they hop onto a metallic motorcycle or pose next to a giant robot. It’s an interactive experience that lets them feel a part of the art.

Starry Sky Exhibition Melbourne

Upstairs, there’s something truly magical for the little ones. The fantasy Starry Sky Exhibition mixes lights and shadows to create stunning visuals that have you feeling like you’ve stepped onto a film set.

Featuring a variety of unique installations such as the whimsical Candy Maze, the magical Enchanted Forest, and the mesmerizing 360° Tunnel, this exhibition offers an engaging outing for all ages.

Families can explore vibrant mazes that stimulate the senses and inspire creativity, allowing children to engage with art in a fun and imaginative way. Every corner and corridor offers a new visual delight, perfect for family photos that are sure to light up your social media feed.

The interactive elements of the Starry Sky Exhibition encourage kids to touch, feel, and experience art in a way that traditional galleries may not allow. With its safe and welcoming atmosphere, parents can relax while their children dive into the artistic adventures that await.

Unleash Creativity

For budding artists, the interactive painting room in the Art Lab offers a creative experience.

Children can paint digitally, seeing their creations projected on large screens, transforming simple drawings into dynamic pieces of digital art. It’s a fun, hands-on way to engage with art and technology to create something unique.

Virtual Adventures and Gaming Thrills

Older kids and teens will be drawn to the VR Experiences and E-Sports Game Room, where digital realms come to life. Whether they’re battling space aliens in VR or competing in the latest esports games, there’s no shortage of high-tech entertainment.
